Mindfulness Meditation has been used successfully around the world in the treatment of stress and anxiety. Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced mindfulness meditation practices to hospital-based stress relief clinics in 1979, and now they are spread in more than 200 hospitals around USA. Through his pioneer work there are many published scientific articles now available on the benefits of mindfulness practice.

Its principle is very simple: bring your awareness to the present moment and you will notice that you are not your thoughts. Thoughts are impermanent: they arise and they pass away if we don’t engage with them. This simple fact can make us aware of the thoughts that are beneficial, the ones that are not so beneficial and give us the space and the freedom to choose.

On the practical level Mindfulness Meditation helps to improve concentration and focus, and also improves creativity.

FREE OF CHARGE Community mindfulness relaxation and meditation sessions for over 55’s  at Lane Cove Library in 2017 on third Monday of the month (except April because of Easter weekend) at Meeting Room 2.

The one and half hour weekly EVENING session includes 25 min of stretches, 20 min relaxation and introduction to different types of mindfulness meditation as used by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zin, Ajahn Brahm, Dr. Bruno Cayoun, Jack Kornfield, Thich Nhat Hahn and many other experts in the field.
